PARLIAMENTARY PROCEDURE

The distribution of blossoms on an ironweed plant,
though confusing, is not random.
They form a committee with a rotating chair.
On this sunny morning, with each gust of wind,
their heads dip and swivel in unison.
The vote is unanimous and the motion passes.

The eyes have it in extremes of purple.
Later, in the calm of the afternoon,
further activity is tabled and the meeting adjourns.
But the organization continues,
following all procedures, written and unwritten,
and well-versed in the rules of order.
