I remember the day so long ago,
one that dawned spanking clear,
when I stood on a sunny ridge
with a map of the whole universe
spread out before me.
It was brightly-colored,
with an exhaustive index.
But it was too big to fold up
and put in a pocket.
I looked at it, and found my way
to the place I wanted to be,
but I left that map behind.
